>MINISTRY/Carpenter's Men's Ministry
The men’s ministry at Beacon Hill is called “the Carpenters”. Rev. Rick Dorsey was inspired to create the name because the group’s goal is “to build men to serve Christ”. The group meets on a monthly basis on the last Saturday of the month for two hours, for a time of fellowship, prayer, bible study, life discussions and a potluck meal provided by the brothers.
The men have had several other activities develop as a result of the Carpenters’ fellowship. In Summer 2008, the men partnered with a Southern Baptist Convention Missions Team from Murfreesboro, TN to remove the old roof and install a totally new roof on the main church building. The brothers also oversee the church’s annual holiday food drive, when food baskets are delivered to assist less fortunate families for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The Carpenters’ Apprentices was created based on a need to work more closely with the growing number of young men in the church, especially targeting those boys being raised in homes without dads being present. In past years, the boys have gone to Streator Baptist Camp, where the late Pastor Garey Haskell and Rev. Charley Lowe spent time mentoring them and discussing life issues with the youth. The boys also had an excursion to see a Chicago Rush Arena Football game at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL, where the Carpenters and Apprentices had a great time of fun and fellowship, and rooted the Rush to a victory!
The men of the Carpenters ministry are excited about serving God and are anxiously awaiting what God will assign as their next outreach activity!
