Rev. Rick accepted his calling to the Gospel Ministry in 1981, and later that year was licensed by the church to preach. In November 1987, the church ordained both Rev. Rick and Rev. Haskell, and then called Rev. Haskell to serve the church as its 2nd pastor. Rev. Haskell named Rev. Rick to serve as his Assistant Pastor, Pianist and Keyboardist, and Director of Christian Education. Over the years, they grew very close, as ministers of the Gospel and as best friends. They served the Lord and Beacon Hill as a team together for 23 years, until Pastor Haskell’s passing in May, 2010.
Following the passing of his closest friend and pastor, Rev. Rick continued to serve the Beacon Hill family, and was named as Interim Pastor in July, 2010. The Lord led the congregation to elect Rev. Rick as its third pastor, effective March 1, 2011.
Pastor Rick graduated from the John M. Smyth Elementary School and the Theodore Roosevelt High School in Chicago, IL. He attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he was awarded a B.A. in Elementary Education in December, 1973, and in June 1980 was awarded a Masters of Arts in Educational Administration. He also attended the Moody Bible Institute for several years.
Pastor Rick retired from the Chicago Public Schools in July, 2009, after 35 years of service as a teacher, coordinator, school principal and central office project manager. God blessed him to serve as a teacher and as the principal of his former childhood elementary school, John M. Smyth School. During those 35 years of service, the Lord used him to minister to the needs of many students and their families, and many of his associates at every stop that the Lord took him to.
Rev. Rickey Dorsey is the second of three children of the late Russell and Priscilla Dorsey. He has one sister, Mrs. Ernestine Brooks, and had one brother, the late Kirby Dorsey, Sr. Pastor Rick married the love of his life, Cheryl Marie Hence, on July 19, 1980. The Reverends Dorsey recently celebrated their 35th year wedding anniversary. The Lord has blessed them with two sons currently attending college, Joseph Paul at Columbia College-Chicago and Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, IL and Russell Robert at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa OK.
Pastor Rick currently serves as Moderator of the Chicago Metropolitan Baptist Association (CMBA), and serves on several CMBA committees as well. In addition, Pastor Rick is the Recording Secretary of the Chicago Heights Area Ministers Council (CHAMC), he serves on the Advisory Council of Park Forest Mayor John Ostenberg, and works closely with Chicago Heights Ward 1 Alderman Rev. Walter Mosby on various community activities.
Pastor Rick says that the “little church with the big heart” has much work to do in the months ahead. Pastor Rick’s vision is to strengthen the preaching and teaching ministry here at THE HILL, in his effort to bring a greater outreach ministry in the Beacon Hill Community and surrounding areas, to reach more and more of the area’s men, women and children to seek their personal salvation by bringing them in touch with the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ. Pastor Rick understands that the harvest in this community is truly ripe, and he wants to guide every available laborer into the vineyard of Christ to make a difference in the lives of His people.
